Launch attempt 1 - cancelled

Print PDF
We finished the flight line procedure and waited for the wind to
cooperate, but the wind over the Scott base is too high. The launch is
canceled for today. We will try again tomorrow. The weather is expected
to be similar tomorrow and hope to find the launch window. We will start
at the regular time.

We are heading out to the launch pad. The wind is still marginal. We
need a stable window for the launch.
Cross your fingers.

We will have to wait for the low level wind direction to be
favorable. The wind is too variable at the moment. We need steady
north easterly wind. The forecast is that it is coming. So, it is a
matter of waiting. This reminds me of 6 hrs of waiting last year.  It
took another 6 hrs to launch the balloon and 4-5 hrs to reach the
float. Hope it is shorter this year but the Ice crew must be ready
for a long day. After lunch let's take a nap.

The surface weather looks good. We are taking the launch procedure. The
instrument check out is complete. The CDM LPT is in progress. SOC should
be prepared for the TDRSS data flow in about 30 min.

The real time action can be seen on the Ice Cam.

The launch attempt is ON!

Our show time is 6 AM targeting for 2 PM launch tomorrow Wednesday 12/17.
SOC needs to be manned accordingly.

Although the pathfinder had a short flight, the weatherman  had enough
data to confirm the circulation. Following the CSBF FRR all members
completed the driving courses. I will check on radio & Iridium phones
tomorrow morning.

All the best,
Eun-Suk
