Re: Launch Attempt 1

I just accepted an offer to take an opportunity to launch tomorrow. We
will have the flight readiness review (CSBF review) at 1 pm after the
weather brief.
Good luck to all.

Launch Attempt 1

Print PDF
There will be an attempt to launch a pathfinder today 11 am NZT. The
weather brief will be 1 pm. To my untrained eyes, the 72 hr forecast
for the stratospheric anticyclone looks good.Considering the delay in
the wind data transfer/analysis, the launch could be sooner if the
ground condition is met.

Cross your fingers,

Pathfinder Launch

Print PDF
All,

Pathfinder 1 was launched yesterday, Monday 12/8, 1:30 pm NZT. Some photos are on our web. It was a picture perfect day. The balloon soared to 127 kft. However it drifted to East indicating the anticyclone is not set yet. Following the CREAM hang test of 12/1, ANITA completed its hang test on Sunday, 12/7 NZT, and both payloads are flight ready. The ULDB is being prepared and it may launch first if the wind pattern is not suitable for science payloads. The CSBF webcam is on. The link should be available on our cream 2008 flight web page.
Pathfinder 0 was launched on Saturday 12/6, NZT, but the balloon failed shortly after launch. It landed approximately 2.5 miles northwest of the LDB Site. The balloon package was recovered. This is the first pathfinder failure I ever heard of. We will hear about the cause after the investigation.

Keep wishing/praying for polar vortex.

From the Ice,
Eun-Suk

CREAM-IV at McMurdo, Dec. 2nd 2008

Print PDF
Dear,

Here is a summary of CREAM-IV flight preparation status on the 2nd of December at McMurdo.
  • A muon run in flight mode has been taken from ~9 AM to ~3 PM. Data are uploaded into cdps3 for analysis and plotting.
  • Prashant has investigated S3 threshold value setting issue. The TCD config file is not updating well from time to time. A reset of TCD has resolved it today.
